Timothy L. Walters, PhD, PWS

I am a botanist, wetland scientist and restoration ecologist whose responsibilities include conducting threatened and endangered plant surveys, terrestrial and aquatic plant community surveys, stream surveys, faunal surveys, permitting, mitigation planning, design and monitoring. I have conducted hundreds of wetland delineation studies in 24 states using all of different regional supplements. He has been trained for Federal endangered species consultation by the USFWS and wetland and stream assessments (VIBI, FQAI, AMPHIBI, QHEI, ORAM, HHEI, MnRAM, MRAM) by several different state agencies. I was also selected as a trainer for the USEPA’s NWCA, where I trained federal, state, and consultant field crews.

When I first came to the Oak Openings Region of Northwestern Ohio in 1993, I fell in love with the incredible diversity of the vascular flora. I enjoy sharing this knowledge that I have gained over the past 30 years with others.  I came to this region to study botany and ecological succession at the University of Toledo. My interest in documenting the flora of this region grew from there. I am currently working on the Flora of the Oak Openings, revising E. L. Moseley's 1928 flora of the region. I have also co-published several papers on different aspects of the Oak Openings flora. My main botanical interests are the more challenging families to identify, primarily the Cyperaceae (sedges- mainly Carex!), Poaceae (grasses), Asteraceae (composites) and the genus Rubus (blackberries).
